New Poem: A Story

A Story
(By Matthew David Ward)

Come gather 'round children, I'll tell you a story
'Bout love and regret such as you've never heard
How white hatred flowed from the blood of love
And how in the end there was nothing to be done

He saw her on the stage and all the world disappeared
With the music playing he felt his heart beat so fast
Could this be love, the question to himself he posed
He gathered up his courage when the curtain closed

He saw her face to face and all the world disappeared
With the magic in her eyes and beauty of her smile
He asked her for a dance through the days ahead
She replied, "Yes." And there was nothing more to be said

The days rolled on and the love appeared to grow strong
With trial and tribulations they kept carrying on
But one day it seemed she had been deceiving
And he was the fool who just kept on believing

It all came to light that she had been cheating
With some other lover, whose name I care not to recall
Face to face with the truth he'd been denying
From the start, it seemed, his love had been lying

And the sadness and pain slowly became clear
How she'd hurt him and used him for so many days
But then the anger and fury engulfed his soul
And he struggled to hold it under control

But to sink to her level would be unforgivable
That's just not the type of man he was
So he pushed aside the anger and fell into the arms
Of the feelings and hearts he knew were no harm

All the angels gathered 'round to bring comfort
And to guide him through, and out the other side
His heart was torn apart by love, and pulled together by the same
He gathered up his courage and he threw off the pain
