The Almighty $

Whoever said money was the root of all evil was absolutely right on the money, so to speak. When it comes to those green pieces of paper I guess you really have to be careful who you trust. Whether it be your family, your friends, your accountant, your hobo friend Bob, or anyone else. Money can bring out the worst in people - and often does. And, the almighty dollar ties in quite well with one of the seven deadly sins doesn't it? Greed.

Okay, so I quit reading the Rickman novel and am now trying Michael Crichton's The Terminal Man. I believe the last time I couldn't really get into a book it was a Michael Crichton novel that got me going again. I love the way his books are fiction, but involve real science and facts. I like when people blend fact with fiction. Crichton is always an interesting read.

On my way home from my therapist appointment, I see four accidents within 4 miles. Yes, four accidents within four miles. One was a three car crash, one was a guy running into a hill, another was a truck carrying new cars that was rear ended and ran into the median, the last was a couple of cars that ran into the back of each other. These were all individual accidents. It was very strange. To top it off, before I got home, I saw one more accident: a car ran off the road, down a hill and into a ditch. Dangerous rain, I do believe.

I've read a couple of articles on CNN.com about children who have died playing what the media has dubbed the "choking game." This is where children hang themselves with nooses in an attempt to pass out... it delivers a type of "high." Anyway, while reading these, the doctors and people studying this "epidemic" are saying they're "pretty sure" this is nothing new. Well, no it isn't anything new. I remember this "game," or versions of this "game" from when I was in elementary school. I never participated, but I knew of its existence.

As for how life is going... I guess I'll refer to a very true Mary Chapin Carpenter lyric: "Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug."
