"Small Towns" and "Her"

I've started writing a new short story tentatively titled "Small Towns." It's about a man who writes a weekly column for a paper about the stories underneath various towns. He stumbles upon a town called Joyous, Arizona and quickly discovers a dark secret.

Went to the post office today and mailed my Halloween card to my best friend in Kentucky. The card was a picture of a mummy, Marvin, having his wrapping shredded by a cat. Down below, it says, "I knew this was a bad idea." I thought it was cute. Halloween has never been my favorite holiday. I guess that may be for all those people who feel it necessary to vandalize on the day. *sigh*

I've been searching for interesting a fun blogs and have found a couple more. I'm considering posting links to them on the menu to the side, but, to me, it just smacks of "hey, I linked you, now you link me" and I'm not much up for that.

My latest poem, written today, is below:

Her
(by Matthew David Ward)

The taste of her skin
The beauty within her eyes
A love so true and unique
It can never be recreated
For as many years as I live
She will be the one I recall
In those dark nights alone
Craving the touch of pure love
If there are angels in this world
Then she must have been one
As I know for a fact
She's the closest to one I'll ever know
And she's out there tonight
Somewhere beneath these stars
I may never get to hold her again
But I can say I have no regrets
The passion in her smile
And the sun in her eyes
I can see them now and I probably always will
And her memory will warm these dark nights alone
