Goodbye Rehnquist

I am one of the many people in the world who has been raised by television. I grew up spending more time with my TV friends than I did with real live people. This being the case, I feel strongly toward celebrities of all types. They are like family to me. I remember when John Ritter died in 2003, I cried for a couple of days. It really hit me hard.

So, with this in mind, from time to time I may mention the death, illness, or any other circumstance of a random celebrity. Which is the case today. I want to mention the death of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court William Hubbs Rehnquist who died of thyroid cancer at age 80. I remember not long ago reading on CNN.com an article where he told them he had no intention of resigning from his position any time soon (which really made me notice him as a strong man) even as he battled the illness. The Supreme Court must be going through one hell of a time. First, Sandra Day O'Connor resigns, now this.

Before I end this post I want to go back to the death of John Ritter. He died at such a bad time. I know there is no right time to die, but hear me out. He died on September 11, 2003: the same day as youngest daughter's 5th birthday, 1 day before wife Amy Yasbeck's 40th birthday, 6 days before his 55th birthday, and 7 days before his 4th wedding anniversary to Amy. Talk about bad timing. Anyway, as a side note, he died in the very same hospital he was born in.

Rest in peace John, and you too, Chief Justice.
